ART: A Feast for the Senses
ARTfeast offers a chance each year to get together the old-fashioned way: with food. February 21, start at Contemporary Encounter, a salon and lecture by SITE director Laura Heon on the work of electronic-media artist Steina, 6–8 pm, $50, SITE Santa Fe, 1606 Paseo de Peralta.
February 22, dine at the Fashion Luncheon & Bazaar, with a runway show by Dallas designer Allie Koosh, 12–2 pm, $125, Inn at Loretto, 211 Old Santa Fe Trail. Later, catch ARTfeast’s centerpiece event: the Edible Art Tour, where you can nibble on bite-size delights while perusing a visual menagerie in 35 galleries downtown, on Canyon Road, and at the Railyard, 5–8 pm, $35.
February 23, the Art of Home Tour opens the doors to eight residences showcasing art from local galleries. Pick up a map at Santa Fe Properties (1000 Paseo de Peralta), 12–4 pm, free. Afterward, the Art of Wine & Jazz serves up fine wines to the tune of live jazz, 3–5 pm, $50, Hilton of Santa Fe, 100 Sandoval Street. Finally, the Gourmet Dinner & Children’s Plate Auction, a five-course meal (with honorary artist Roxanne Swentzell) and sale of kids’ art highlights the program’s successes, 6 pm, $150, La Posada de Santa Fe, 330 E Palace.
February 24, the Artists’ Champagne Brunch & Auction hosts bidding on artwork and packages from local art businesses, 11–2, $65, Inn at Loretto, 211 Old Santa Fe Trail. OPERA: High Fidelity
Skip the flight to New York this year and soak up the soprano (and bass) sounds of the Metropolitan Opera from a seat at The Lensic (211 W San Francisco) instead. The Met has partnered with the Santa Fe Opera to bring high-definition simulcasts of this season’s productions to the City Different, with its spring offerings ranging from the sinister Peter Grimes (March 15, 11:30 am) to Puccini’s passionate Manon Lescaut (February 16, 11 am). MUSIC: Southern Revival
From his beginnings as a blind child playing a $12 guitar, Doc Watson became one of the most influential figures in the roots-music revival movement. A bluegrass legend and winner of eight Grammys—including its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award—this maestro shares his renowned flat-picking prowess, warm voice, and down-home charm at The Lensic (211 W San Francisco), March 30 at 7 pm.
